6 Different Types of Fire Alarm Cables
Fire alarm systems are very important for any business, school, facility, home, and much more. They protect us when alerts arise and deliver notification of potential threats and harm. They can be installed in a variety of ways depending on the type of fire alarm system you have. Fire alarm cables are used to connect your fire alarm panel with the various devices that make up your fire alarm system.
There are 6 different types of fire alarm cable:
Power limited Fire Alarm Cables
1) FPL (Fire Protection Line)
2) FPLR Shielded
3) FPLP
4) FPLP Shielded
Non-Power Limited Fire Alarm Cables
1)NPLF
2)NPLFP FPL which is a power-limited fire alarm riser cable. It has a maximum length of 100 feet (30 m). This cable is designed to carry power from the fire alarm panel to the fire alarm device or other equipment.
FPLR Shielded is a power-limited fire alarm shielded cable. It is designed to carry power and data between the fire alarm panel and the fire alarm device or equipment. The shield provides protection against electromagnetic interference.
FPLP Shielded is a Power-Limited Fire Alarm Riser Cable. It is designed to provide power and data communication between the fire alarm panel(s) and the fire alarm device(s).
NPLFP is a Non-Power Limited Fire Alarms Riser Cable. It does not require a shield. It is used to allow the fire alarm panels to communicate with each other.
NPLF is a non-power limited fire alarm riser cable and it is not required to have a shield. It is designed to allow the fire alarm panel to communicate with the fire alarm device or the other fire alarm devices.
NPLF is typically used for low voltage signals such as temperature sensors, smoke detectors, etc.
